Our Story

The Old Craft Barn, originally an 18th century hay barn, was initially converted in the late 1970’s into a working Craft Centre where decorative and practical items were created from Victorian printing blocks and wooden bobbins. In more recent times, it evolved into a sales centre for high class local crafts. With the addition of a tearoom “Dent Craft Centre” became an eminent venue for locals and tourists alike.

We bought the Craft Centre in March 1999, and our success led us to extending it in 2006. Despite thoroughly enjoying our eleven years operating the tearoom and craft-centre, we were ready for change. This new initiative fit the bill perfectly and with lots of remodelling yet still retaining some of the original features, we have managed to recapture the notalgia and atmosphere of this traditional Dales barn.

Work began early in 2010, and for six months we seemed to be living on a building site as new soundproof, fireproof and insulated rooms were constructed within the original thick stone walls. Eventually, the work came to an end and the excitement of furnishing began. We believe that The Old Craft Barn now lends itself admirably to the welcoming venue it is today.

Our passion and enthusiasm have increased with the years, and our standards continue to remain as high as ever, in hope that from our emphasis to provide quality, relaxation and warm northern hospitality, you will retain a pleasing memory of your stay in this beautiful dale.
